Happy Veteran’s Day to all of my brothers and sisters that have answered our nation’s call! Roughly 6% of the American population are veterans. Typically, less than 2% of the population serve in our active duty military. If you think about it, those numbers are wild. While not every person in our military will see combat action, every single one of them signed up to pay the ultimate price for the freedoms that we hold. Not all in the military will deploy, but every member of our armed services will support those causes. Veterans, your dedication and sacrifice protect our nation and its values, and their contributions extend far beyond the battlefield and I salute you!
The security world is in constant need of new people to fill its ranks. Because of the unique challenges veterans face when in the military, they have developed a particular set of skills. A set of skills that… include integrity, discipline, rapid assessment and response, teamwork, and leadership. These are skills that are used on a regular basis in the security career field. Because of that, I want to share some resources for veterans that you may not be aware of.
ISC2 Veterans Initiative (isc2.org) – The ISC2 offers veterans training, 1 on 1 coaching, and other resources.
VetSec (vetsec.org) – VetSec is a non-profit that provides veterans education and employment services.
CyberVets (cybervets.org) – CyberVets offers active duty members to transition out of the military and into cybersecurity roles.
I thank you all for taking a moment out of your day to read this post and I especially thank every veteran out there. I appreciate you all and hope you have a great day. Remember to be safe and stay vigilant out there!
